Business Women Scotland (BWS) and Women’s Enterprise Scotland (WES) are collaborating to mark the achievements of the growing numbers of women-led businesses. The Business Awards will celebrate the entrepreneurial talents of women across Scotland – and help to create more business role models to inspire the next generation of leading women. Join us as we start the evening with a welcome glass of fizz and networking, then through to the auditorium for the Awards ceremony.
As we unveil the women making their mark their way in the world of business this year, we are delighted to have the support of the Federation of Small Businesses, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Business Gateway and Grand Central hotel. Together, we will recognise the notable contribution women are making to boost Scotland’s economy and continue to develop a diverse and thriving world-class business ecosystem .
Our MC for the evening is journalist and broadcaster Rachel McTavish. In the last 15 years Rachel has worked for ITV, BBC, FIVE, GMTV, STV, ITV London and can be seen reading the news on STV.

We are delighted to have Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne and Prof Lesley Sawers as judges, both ladies who know what it takes to be a success in business.
Judge – Prof Lesley Sawers
Lesley Sawers is Vice Principal & Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor for Business, Innovation and Enterprise at Glasgow Caledonian University. She was previously Chief Executive of the Scottish Council for Development & Industry (SCDI) for 5 years, joining from Glasgow Chamber of Commerce – where she was the first female Chief Executive in its 230 year history. She has held senior appointments in Scotland, London and internationally in Royal Mail Group, Scottish Power, CACI and Management Horizons. She is also an non-executive director at Scottish Environmental Protection Agency(SEPA), Glasgow Life and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.
Lucinda Bruce-Gardyne – Founder, Genius Food Ltd
Scottish chef and writer who specialises in cookery and food allergies.
Judge – Justine Mitchell
Justine is a qualified lawyer having graduated in 1991. She specialised as an employment law partner until 2005 when she retired from law to pursue other interests including property redevelopment. This also led to Justine establishing Chamomile Sanctuary, day spa, in 2010.
Justine is a former Director of Dundee United Football Club having served as a director from 2013 to 2016 and having supported the Club for over 30 years. She launched the Dundee United Women’s Football Club in 2015 and is now its Chair.
Justine has also been a Trustee of Dundee United’s Community Trust, a Director of the Scottish Women’s Football Board and is a former Member of the Scottish FA Congress. She also sits on the Scottish FA Judicial Panel.
In 2016 Justine was awarded Inspirational Woman of the Year by Business Women Scotland Magazine. She has also judged the UK Professional Beauty Awards.
Jessica Butcher, Co-Founder and CMO at Blippar
Our speakers include Jessica Butcher, Co-Founder and Director at Blippar, the global market-leading augmented reality platform adopted by many of the world’s most famous brands and media publications including Coca-Cola, Unilever, L’Oreal, Conde Nast and Forbes. Blippar has the unique power to turn any physical, printed image or product into an instantaneous, interactive digital experience and Jess will share with us the experience of creating a rapid-growth tech venture right here in the UK.
Jayne-Anne Gadhia, CEO of Virgin Money
We will also hear by video from Jayne-Anne Gadhia, CEO of Virgin Money and the longest serving CEO of any European bank. In 2015, a review conducted by Jayne-Anne led to the launch of the Women in Finance Charter – a commitment by firms to work together for gender equality in the financial services sector. This year, in her book the Virgin Banker, the straight-talking CEO looked back at the events which have influenced, shaped and inspired her career to date.
