BWS Awards 2016 Shortlist

BWS Awards 2016 Shortlist

The shortlist for the Business Women Scotland Awards has been announced, with female led companies from all over Scotland celebrating the success of their entrepreneurial spirit.

Entry was open to any female led business based in Scotland, and we were delighted to see a geographical spread of entries from a variety of different industries, showing that women are indeed helping boost Scotland’s economy.

The shortlist reflects success in different areas, looking at results so far, potential growth opportunities, innovative ideas and practices, staff and customer engagement, and leadership.  Making the cut were companies from Arbroath to Aberdeen, Kyle of Lochalsh to Kilmarnock, working in industries including communication, facilities management, textiles and fashion, recruitment, and hospitality.

We were delighted to have the knowledge and expert advice of Margaret Gibson, Chief Executive at Women’s Enterprise Scotland, in picking the shortlist.  Margaret is the only woman in Scotland to hold the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion, for individual people who have played an important role in promoting enterprise skills and supporting entrepreneurs.

Margaret said:  “Once again the quality and variety of applications from all over Scotland was inspiring.  Women running businesses often completely underestimate the impact they are having on the economy and on the communities in which they live and work.  We need to get better at celebrating the successful women we have in business, as they are the role models and ambassadors for the next generation of female entrepreneurs.  Many of the applicants have already created jobs, train their staff to very high standards and give back to good causes.”

Judges Marie Macklin CBE and Dr Lesley Sawers now have the difficult task of choosing the winners, who will be presented with their awards at a fun black tie ceremony at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow on the evening of Thursday 27th October 2016.  STV newsreader Rachel McTavish will MC the awards, with TV presenter turned entrepreneur Carol Smillie as guest speaker, and a raffle for the magazine’s charity partner Maggie’s Centres.
