Please be aware that the past few weeks of alcohol, partying, eating sugar loaded snacks, lack of proper sleep and generally ‘over indulging’ will definitely have an effect on your skin. Your eyes may have the ‘shopping bags’ underneath them. Your otherwise smooth skin has become spotty and blotchy. That lovely dewy look skin now feels super dry and parched! So listen to the ‘Skin Doctor’ and get your skin into optimum health ASAP!
Start by aiming to drink 2 litres of water a day – this alone is going to change your skin. If your skin appears dull, lined and pores look more prominent, this is a sure sign that you aren’t drinking enough water. You see water plumps up the skin causing wrinkles and pores ‘to get filled in.’ And that favourite friend of mine, collagen, needs water for its surrounding structures to work effectively! Finally, when skin is hydrated, it’s less likely to crack and let in external particles that cause irritation, making skin become sensitive and in bad cases, causing eczema. You’re sweet enough Darling! Cut out all sugar – sugar causes wrinkles and acne. Did you know that this has now been clinically proven! Truth is when you start to eat less sugary foods – your taste buds stop craving it.
Eat as many vegetables as you can. Sweet potato, spinach, kale and broccoli are a few of my own favourites and are terrific for skin. Vegetables equals antioxidants and it’s like skincare for your inside. Antioxidants fight little bad guys called free radicals which cause havoc and age skin. Think about 3/4 of your meal being vegetables and you are on your way to fab skin and you’ll lose a few pounds at the same time! Think salads, roasted veg and soups.
Book a facial as soon as. A good facial should take off dead skin cells, increase blood flow, take away toxins, and plump and nourish your skin. You should see a difference immediately and this will encourage you to be better at your skincare regime.
At the moment I am applying an anti ageing face mask, JL Formulations Rejuvenating Mask, every night and sleeping with it on. I do this every time my skin feels stressed to prevent any damage, boosting hydration and to regenerate my lost luminosity. Cleanse skin, exfoliate and apply eye cream, serum then face mask. See the difference in your skin in the morning. Do this for one full week to quickly ‘fix’ your skin. At this time when it’s cold outside, double up on moisturiser every day. Apply your moisturiser then leave for around 20 minutes. After 20 minutes ‘feel’ and be aware of your skin. If it still feels tight anywhere apply more moisturiser on these areas.
Chemical peels come into their own at this time of year as skin hibernates, and what I mean by that is that skin ‘shedding’ slows down causing skin to look grey, sluggish and thickened. A chemical peel done by a qualified therapist will freshen up your skin like nothing else will. Follow this with a red light LED treatment which stimulates collagen and actually activates the happy hormone causing you to feel fabulous after the facial. These are the super facials that exist now, so go and treat yourself.
